Chopta – Tungnath Tour 3 Nights / 4 Days

4 Days

Here’s a detailed Chopta – Tungnath Tour Itinerary, perfect for adventure lovers, trekkers, and nature seekers. The trip can be done in 3 Nights / 4 Days from Delhi or Rishikesh/Haridwar.

Overview

Tungnath, perched at an altitude of 3,680 meters (12,073 ft) in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, is the highest Shiva temple in the world and one of the Panch Kedar shrines. It holds immense spiritual significance and is also a trekkers’ paradise, set amidst the majestic Garhwal Himalayas.

Located just above Chopta, the temple is accessible via a moderate 3.5 km trek from the Chopta base, making it a perfect blend of devotion, nature, and adventure. The trail winds through rhododendron forests, alpine meadows, and snow-capped backdrops — ideal for both beginners and seasoned hikers.

Just 1.5 km above Tungnath lies the stunning Chandrashila Peak (4,000 m), offering 360° panoramic views of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedarnath, and Chaukhamba peaks — especially breathtaking at sunrise.

Tungnath is believed to be over 1,000 years old, and legend ties it to the Mahabharata, where the Pandavas built this temple to atone for their sins. Despite its altitude, it opens during summer (April to November) and is closed in winter due to heavy snowfall.
